After being traded by the San Diego Padres, Juan Soto is currently wearing the pinstripes of the New York Yankees. In three years, the 25-year-old sensation is playing for his third squad. Even while many people consider it a dream come true to play for the Yankees, Soto’s heart seems to belong to the team where he first made his Major League debut.
In an interview with Chris Kirschner of The Athletic, Soto said he is content to be back playing for a contender. He does, however, “100%” wish he had spent his whole playing career with the Nationals.
Soto declared, “I never wanted to leave Washington.” The team was excellent. From the bottom to the top, everyone there was someone I knew. I was glad that I had a residence in Washington and that I felt completely at home there. I was also incredibly comfortable. They suddenly decided to do that. They believed it to be optimal for the group. Simply said, I appreciated it since they were quite upfront with me. .. I honestly believed I would spend my entire career in Washington, D.C., and I never thought I would leave.
At the age of sixteen, Soto signed as an international free agent and spent the first five seasons with the Nationals. He debuted in Major League Baseball.
It appeared that Soto was going to become the best player in Nationals history. Unfortunately, as reports surfaced that Soto rejected a $440 million offer from the Nats during the 2022 season, the marriage was no longer financially sustainable for the team.
Soto was not given the counteroffer that he was expecting. The Nats sold Soto to San Diego in return for a plethora of young prospects because the two parties were incompatible during the contract negotiations.
Soto didn’t anticipate being dealt, even though Nats general manager Mike Rizzo was honest with him and his agent Scott Boras. Soto acknowledged that he cried all morning after learning of his trade to San Diego.

Soto’s shocking disclosure is not surprising. Ever since the Nats traded him, he doesn’t seem to be the same. Nevertheless, his struggles are a result of his wealth. Scott Boras, Soto’s agent, is renowned for pursuing ground-breaking deals.
Soto has been bouncing about lately because of the power play. Soto has opted out of extensions in favour of arbitration until he becomes a free agent in the winter of next year. He’ll make $31 million this season.
Many of the young talents that the Nats acquired in the Juan Soto trade will be key players in their reconstruction.
Both parties are currently concentrating on the 2024 season. The Yankees believe that Soto is the final component needed to win a 28th World Series. Waiting for its peak, Washington is slogging through another slow season.
