The Israeli international hasn’t played recently, and manager Brendan Rodgers has said that he’s not in the appropriate frame of mind to play given the ongoing conflict between his nation and Hamas. It has sparked curiosity about his future, since MLS teams are said to be interested in him.

If they are unable to come to an agreement, Abada will have to wait until the summer to make arrangements to leave Parkhead. McAvennie told Football Insider that while he thinks Abada’s time in the park is over, he would still like to see him.

“I’d put Abada in the team if he was there,” he stated. He should play if I could have faith in him to go outside and clear his mind of all the noise.

“To put it simply, I don’t think he can go back at this point. Although I would really like to see the boy, I don’t have time for those who wish to involve politics in football.

“There’s no place for it – the world’s gone mad. You go to games to get away from that. I feel for Abada because there are supporters that love him and some that are going against him. It must be hard for the boy. I think Brendan is the right guy to have there because he’ll be talking to him. He’ll know if Abada is playing or not.”

The veteran striker has also praised Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland in the midst of the Glasgow rivals’ close title contest. He thinks Rangers might win five games and earn five points from the shot stopper who is getting close to rejoining the England team.
