Talks about Daniel Kelly’s contract extension have begun at Celtic.

The teenager made his SPFL debut during the midweek match. He came on in place of Callum McGregor before halftime, and in less than twenty minutes, he scored with a calm strike into the postage stamp corner.

Tide turns in Celtic's attempts to convince top youth prospects to remain at the club

Kelly’s contract only has ten months left on it, which is concerning because clubs in Germany and England are reportedly interested in signing him to a preseason contract in July.

Wednesday’s performance against Dundee puts the player in the driving seat when it comes to negotiations which will now take on a sense of urgency.

Daniel Kelly, a teenage goal scorer during the week, is being pursued by CELTIC to sign a new deal.

The 18-year-old midfielder gave Brendan Rodgers’ team a crushing 7-1 victory against Dundee to cap off a fantastic Premiership debut. It was his first goal as a professional.

Kelly’s contract expires at the end of 2024, and English clubs as well as Bundesliga powerhouses Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig are showing a lot of interest in signing him up.

Celtic have now made contact with the Scottish youngster’s representatives to schedule discussions on a new deal before he becomes free to sign a pre-contract agreement with another club this summer.

Kelly has been on the bench since the end of the winter break, even with Odin Thiago Holm back to fitness he has retained his place.

Since David Turnbull was traded to Cardiff in January and Reo Hatate sustained an injury, there is less competition for midfield spots.

Kelly is a Celtics supporter, so his contract demands shouldn’t be too high, but his agent will be aware of other offers and will be anticipating the market value for the 18-year-old midfield player.
