An hour before the January transfer window closed, at 10:29 p.m. on transfer deadline day, Adam Idah was revealed as a Celtics player. As of 10:30 p.m., responses on Twitter to Celtic’s announcement of the player had been overwhelmingly negative and irate, which made sense given the disastrous January transfer window the team had managed.

The fact that Idah was reportedly “Norwich’s third choice striker” and that the team had passed up the chance to recruit Pierre’s son Syndey Van Hooijdonk in favor of signing the Corkman were the main sources of frustration.

With five goals in as many league games as he has played so far, it is evident in retrospect that most Celtic supporters were mistaken. However, the story that was told about Idah and his reputation was also completely false.

Prior to joining Celtic, despite limited game-time across December and January, Idah was enjoying his most prolific season to date. Six goals (one penalty) in 28 appearances, albeit just 12 of those appearances were starts, Idah was Norwich’s second top scorer behind their current leading goal scorer Jonathan Rowe.

Idah only just turned 23 last month, a sobering fact considering he has already racked up 121 senior appearances, along with 20 international caps. The former College Corinthians man endured an extremely promising underage career, beginning in the u18 Premier League where he scored nine times in fifteen appearances.

Due to his size and exceptional physical attributes for his age, he was rewarded with his first Norwich U21 team appearance at the age of 16. Over the course of 33 Premier League 2 matches, he would score 15 goals and dish out seven assists.
