After two crucial calls between Hearts and Celtic this afternoon went awry, Gavin Rae has requested that VAR be “binned”.

That’s what the former Dundee and Rangers midfielder thought when the lunchtime kickoff at Tynecastle took place. Referee Don Robertson called a penalty for the Hoops after Yang and Alex Cochrane collided inside the box. The South Korean winger went down after an innocent challenge, prompting a soft judgment. Adam Idah missed the ensuing penalty kick, which Zander Clark’s legs saved.

That was one dramatic moment, but there was another not too long after. Yang was waiting on the ball near the touchline when defender Cochrane raced in to challenge with a header, and his boot caught the Englishman in the face.

After first issuing a yellow card, the referee was encouraged to review his decision by looking at the monitor. After doing so, he revoked the booking and dismissed the attacker.
