The Washington Commanders will have an opportunity to turn the franchise around with the No. 2 overall pick in the NFL, provided they select a quarterback other than Caleb Williams, who is predicted to be selected with the first choice.

Whether it’s 2022 ACC Player of the Year Drake Maye or LSU quarterback and current Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels, head coach Dan Quinn and general manager Adam Peters will select a player in the first round of their rebuilding draft that has the ability to drastically impact the club.

Former defensive back and NFL Network analyst Charles Davis projected that Quinn will try to pick Daniels because of his ability to use his legs, especially considering his defensive background.

“I do think Jayden Daniels will hold a lot of value and a lot of intrigue because Washington has hired Dan Quinn as its new head coach,” Davis stated on the NFL Network. Head coaches with a defensive mindset are crazy about quarterbacks who can run the football and perform off-schedule.

He is Lamar Jackson’s future.” In 2023, the former LSU quarterback had one of his best seasons to date. Daniels passed for 3,812 yards, 40 touchdowns, and just four interceptions during his Heisman campaign. With his legs, he was also a potent danger, with 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Daniels also spoke glowingly of his meeting at the NFL Scouting Combine with Quinn, offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury and the rest of the Commanders coaching staff. The potential connection with Kingsbury is worth mentioning too, as he had a dynamic quarterback in Kyler Murray during his four years as the Arizona Cardinals’ head coach.
