After surgery, Zach LaVine’s “critical” next step receives an update from Billy Donovan.
Zach LaVine had surgery that ended the season, and he is currently recovering.

Zach LaVine is the player that has suffered the most from the Chicago Bulls’ numerous injury problems this season. LaVine spent some time with the Bulls both on and off the court before deciding to have surgery that would end his season. LaVine has been missed and is an important contributor for Chicago.

Zach LaVine is currently attempting to return to full strength as soon as possible, and the Bulls and he are concentrating on his rehabilitation and whether or not he can stay with the team as he heals.

On Tuesday, Bulls head coach Billy Donovan said to the reporters, “We texted a little bit a few days ago.” He was going to the doctor, I know, to get his cast taken off. He’s still pretty much bedridden and in a limp. When he is mobile and able to travel, that’s when I believe the travel component will be most important for him [traveling with the squad]. I’m not aware of the dates. I have a hunch he would arrive.

One of the most important things he has to do to get himself back is treatment. Having had knee surgery a year ago, he has a solid group in LA that he trusts and works with, so I believe that, from a medical standpoint, he feels fairly secure in his current situation. Although I don’t think he’ll be here for the duration of the season, his presence here would be significant. More importantly, though, would be when he is able to start moving and get off of crutches. I believe that he will occasionally return. To be honest, it’s kind of like what Lonzo [Ball] has done, where he’s worked with some guys in the past.
