The New York Giants have a decision to make about Saquon Barkley.

The star running back has been vocal about his discontent with the organization and the way they’ve treated him dating back to last season.

Barkley wants to be compensated for being the best running back in the game, but the Giants aren’t even sure they should sign him to a long-term contract.

While some think his time in the Big Apple is already over, others think he’ll receive the franchise tag before Tuesday’s deadline.

However, that isn’t the case according to oddsmakers, as the Giants remain the clear favorite to have him in their lineup for the upcoming season, followed by the Philadelphia Eagles, Houston Texans, Los Angeles Chargers, Chicago Bears, and Houston Texans.

Financially and in the near run, Barkley might be better off getting tagged because he would probably make more money there than he would elsewhere.

On the other hand, given how much he has battled injuries throughout his career, he has every right to try to look out for himself and obtain insurance for the future.

In the same vein, the Giants and other teams may be hesitant to commit him to a long-term contract for this reason.

Barkley is one of the best running backs in the game when healthy, but he’s missed plenty of time, and with running backs losing free-agent value by the year, this might be his last chance to get paid.
