Tyreek Hill, a wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins, has never been afraid to say that he thinks Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs is the best quarterback in the NFL. Though they are no longer teammates, Hill has insisted that no player in the league can perform to the level of the Chiefs quarterback. Furthermore, Hill shared anecdotal evidence of Mahomes’ lesser-known fiery side with host Ryan Clark on a recent episode of The Pivot podcast, elucidating to the host why he holds such high regard for the quarterback.
Speaking about one of his Kansas City seasons, Hill said, “We were on a bad streak, his supporting cast was playing bad; me, [Travis] Kelce, DeMarcus Robinson, Mecole [Hardman], Sammy [Watkins], we all was playing bad.” “This dude called the whole offense up … he cussed all of us the f- out.”
“That was a moment right there where he stood on busines s…. I really respect him, because he really just called out all his f–ing weapons, individually, pointed us out, looked us in the f–ing eyes, and said, ‘Tyreek, you think you’re so f–ing fast, but you can’t catch the f–ing ball. You want to be the best receiver in the game.’ … He was letting me have it,” said Hill.
After several poor performances, Mahomes didn’t back down from criticizing his receivers, and it appears that the Chiefs offense benefited from that tactic. “In that moment right there, I was like, ‘It’s go time now,'” Hill recalled. “That filled my heart with so much… fuel. We were able to get things moving in the following game.” Mahomes’s brutality in that exchange is one of the reasons, according to Hill, that the two-time MVP is a “different dude” than the other quarterbacks in the league.
