Dak Prescott | Dallas Cowboys QB | NFL and PFF stats | PFFThis trade rumor has Dallas Cowboys quarterback Trey Lance linked to the NFC rival Minnesota Vikings, A trade rumor that is making waves in the NFL has Dallas Cowboys quarterback Trey Lance connected to NFC foe Minnesota Vikings. Trading for Lance could be the next course of action if the Vikings decide not to re-sign Kirk Cousins as their starting quarterback. One speculation during the NFL Scouting Combine, according to Rich Eisen, was that Minnesota would deal Trey Lance to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a mid-round choice. This fuels further rumors that Cousin’s time is running out. The Atlanta Falcons have made it their mission to sign Kirk Cousins as their starting quarterback when he becomes available in free agency, according to ESPN’s Dan Graziano. The Vikings, who have the No. 11 pick in this year’s draft, appear to be in a difficult position to select a quarterback. According to a few sources, quarterbacks will be selected with the first four picks in the draft. Therefore, it’s conceivable that all of the top quarterbacks will be gone by the time the Vikings select.

This trade may come on the second day of the NFL Draft when teams make their picks. However, the Vikings may move up in a trade if they want to take the chance. It would probably require Minnesota to give up a lot to jump into the top five. It’s something that they probably would avoid so Lance could be a backup option to call up Dallas for a trade proposal.

After being acquired by the Cowboys late in the preseason in a trade with the San Francisco 49ers, Lance played as the third-string quarterback for the Cowboys in 2023. During the previous three seasons with the 49ers, he only participated in eight games and never saw action as Dallas’ quarterback. The Minnesota native did go to high school in his hometown before attending North Dakota State, so he does have some links to the team. Prior to Brock Purdy replacing Lance as the quarterback in San Francisco, Lance had no realistic prospect of being a long-term starter.

This could be the perfect opportunity for Lance to return to his hometown and finally get the chance to be the Vikings starting quarterback. In his eight games, he notched 797 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions while completing 55% of his passes. Lance remains an intriguing prospect for many teams across the league, but may now move on to get the chance he wants. The Vikings could view Lance as someone who has high potential.

Lance has been with the Cowboys for so long that he is receiving a bonus to stay on the team. Minnesota might swap that for a potential third-round pick with Dallas. They might be speaking because Cousins is reportedly already thinking about relocating his family to Atlanta. Lance might blend in well with Justin Jefferson, the standout receiver for Minnesota’s offense.
