Tuesday night’s intense match between the Phoenix Suns and Denver Nuggets sparked discussion among basketball enthusiasts regarding who is superior: Nikola Jokić or Kevin Durant?
At the half, the Suns had a 65-50 lead, but the Nuggets forced overtime. However, Durant and Phoenix pulled away from Denver, winning 117-107.
As a result of this, outlets like ESPN among others were drawing up comparisons and raising the question of who will have the better resume once their careers are all said and done.
“If the Nuggets win back-t0-back championships, will Jokic surpass KD [Kevin Durant] on the list of all-time greats,” ESPN said via X (formerly Twitter).
According to the post, Durant won two NBA titles, was named to the All-NBA team ten times, and was the MVP in 2013–14. KD has played 1,041 games over the course of 17 seasons, averaging 27.3 points, 7.0 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per contest.
Jokić is currently 29 years old, and while Durant is 35 years old and has more experience, Jokić still has time to get better and fill up his trophy cabinet.
The 6-foot-11 center for the Nuggets is the current 2022–23 champion, the MVP of the 2020–21 and 2021–22 campaigns, and a five-time All-NBA selection. Over the course of nine seasons, Jokić has averaged 20.7 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 6.9 assists per game.
