Mac Jones, the quarterback for the New England Patriots, may be traded, and if that happens, he might end up with the San Francisco 49ers, which might force them to test a hot take.

DNVR Sports was informed by NFL Network’s James Palmer that numerous coaches at the NFL Combine expressed the opinion that Jones could have already won multiple Lombardi Trophies with the 49ers. After a carousel of former Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance, the 49ers establish Brock Purdy at quarterback.

Palmer stated on the show, “They think they would have won multiple Super Bowls by now if he [Kyle Shanahan] took Mac at three.”

In a strange turn of events, San Francisco was selected before the Patriots in the 2021 draft when Lance was selected at number three, followed by Jones to San Francisco at number fifteen. Before the 2023 season, the 49ers traded Lance to the Dallas Cowboys because he didn’t work out.

Jones’s career in New England failed, as circumstances collapsed in 2023. But over the previous three seasons, the 49ers may have provided a better offensive supporting cast than the Patriots, which could have been the deciding factor. The 49ers have advanced to three NFC Championship Games and one Super Bowl since that 2021 draft.

The Patriots would probably trade Jones to San Francisco in exchange for a late-round selection. San Francisco may require a backup quarterback because Sam Darnold is about to exercise his right to free agency.Purdy participated in all 17 games of the previous campaign, but the previous year in the NFC Championship Game, he suffered an elbow injury that ended his season. In addition, the 49ers, who have appeared in two Super Bowls and four NFC title games in the last five years, have struggled with a multitude of quarterback injuries in recent years.

The Patriots Have Been Contacted by Several Teams Regarding Mac Jones
One of the teams that “have been calling” the Patriots about Jones may be San Francisco. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network revealed on Friday that the Patriots are considering dealing Jones and have spoken with other clubs about the matter.

A late-round pick from several teams in need of a quarterback might be sent to New England for Jones, presumably in order to use him as a backup. According to Mark Daniels of MassLive, Jones should realistically receive a fourth or fifth round selection as payment.
