Following the superstar running back Saquon Barkley’s free-agent loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, the New York Giants quickly signed veteran Devin Singletary to a contract. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the contract is anticipated to be worth $16.5 million over the course of three years.
As the Giants’ workhorse back, Singletary, who just finished his greatest season as a player with the Houston Texans, will now assume Barkley’s position. He intends to build on his 2023 campaign, and he has a contract with New York until the 2026 NFL season.
After spending the previous four seasons playing for Buffalo, Singletary last off-season committed to a one-year contract with Houston. On the depth chart, he was ranked behind teammate running back Dameon Pierce at the beginning of the season, but he managed to pass him in the middle of the campaign.
Singletary had 30 catches for 193 yards as a receiver in addition to running for 898 yards and four touchdowns. Because of his 2023 efforts, he was able to sign a new deal with New York, and he will be the team’s primary backfield leader for the upcoming season.
While playing for the Buffalo Bills during his first 4 seasons, his offensive coordinator was none other than Brian Daboll. Who is now the current head coach for New York. Singletary rushed for 3,151 yards and 16 total touchdowns in 61 career games with Buffalo and will have another opportunity to play in Daboll’s offensive scheme.
Barkley is going to Philadelphia, thus Singletary will be joining a running back group that also includes Eric Gray, Matt Breida, and Gary Brightwell. Before the 2024 NFL Season kicks out, the Giants still need to make judgments about a number of important offensive positions.
