On Monday, the New England Patriots resolved their quarterback situation by signing veteran free agent Jacoby Brissett to a one-year deal. Thus, the former Patriots third-round selection will head back to his old haunts as an experienced backup or as a bridge starter.

In any case, the signing is beneficial for the team overall.

QB Signing: Jacoby Brissett (1 year, $8 million)
Bernd Buchmasser: Given his history in New England and with offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, Brissett may not have been the greatest quarterback available in free agency this year, but he was undoubtedly the best match. A good signing who might have more of an influence as a mentor than as a player

Brian Hines: There wasn’t much of an experienced presence in the Patriots quarterback room the previous season, and Jacoby Brissett is a strong candidate to take that spot. He’s the ideal addition to go with what should be a rookie quarterback because he’s familiar with the offensive plan and is just signed for a one-year contract. | Grade: A

Now that Brissett has joined the Patriots, they have three quarterbacks under contract: Nathan Rourke, Bailey Zappe, and Brissett. In April, it’s expected that a highly-drafted rookie will be added.
