One of the top quarterbacks in the game is on the Baltimore Ravens.

They didn’t panic, therefore, when Tyler Huntley decided to sign with the Cleveland Browns, a divisional opponent.

With that in mind, HC John Harbaugh announced that veteran journeyman Josh Johnson would be Lamar Jackson’s backup in 2024 (via Jamison Hensley).

According to Harbaugh, the two players get along well with one another.

Since 2008, Johnson has played in the league.

Thus far, Johnson has completed 206 out of 355 passing attempts (58.0%), throwing 16 interceptions in addition to 13 touchdowns.

In addition to 425 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown, he has completed 2,280 passing yards with a passer rating of 70.6.

Undoubtedly, these aren’t the best stats one could hope for from a backup, but the Ravens couldn’t afford to perform much better given how close they were to the pay cap.

They still hope that the 37-year-old veteran won’t play a significant amount the next season.

They should only anticipate him to play in a blowout, if anything.

There will always be some injury concerns with Lamar Jackson, but they hope he can stay healthy and fresh now that Derrick Henry will do most of the heavy lifting on the ground.

But if that’s not the case, they might be forced to dig deep into the QB market to get another option.
