Quarterback Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens is better than the current NFL MVP. Plus, he works as a scout part-time.
Harbaugh mentioned that Jackson has been discussing his opinions on college prospects at tight end and wide receiver during the NFL’s annual meetings last week.
Now he’s glancing at guys,” Harbaugh remarked. “On a few guys, he and I both agree. As of yet, we have not differed on anyone. Together, we are sharing our vision.
Jackson would be evaluating draft prospects for the second year in a row. Following the 2022 campaign, Jackson provided South Florida-born receivers on a list and detailed analysis of each draft pick to Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta.
With the No. 22 pick last year, Baltimore ultimately selected wide receiver Zay Flowers, a native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
DeCosta stated last year, “He has strong opinions on all these guys, too.” “He has a lot of thoughts about Zay since he is highly devoted to the players from that region of the nation. He was ecstatic to finally have him.”
The wide receiver position is once again a need for the Ravens, who own the No. 30 pick. Odell Beckham Jr. was cut by Baltimore, and Devin Duvernay left in free agency. Rashod Bateman is entering the final year of his rookie deal, however the team may choose to pick up his fifth-year option. Nelson Agholor is returning on a one-year agreement.
The Ravens are more likely to select an offensive lineman or edge rusher in the first round, but several mock drafts have connected Baltimore to wide receivers such as Xavier Worthy of Texas, Keon Coleman of Florida State, and Ladd McConkey of Georgia. In their 28-year history, the Ravens have selected 33 wide receivers, seven of whom have been selected in the last six years.
“That’s a position where some of these guys are like race cars; they break down at times,” DeCosta said at the NFL combine in February. “And so, having depth at that position is critical, [and] we saw that this year. We think we built the room out pretty well this year and were able to sustain some injuries along the way. So, we will look at that. I think it’s a very, very deep year in the draft. This draft class is pretty impressive from a receiver standpoint.”
Further changes will be made to the remainder of the offensive. In order to replace three starters on the offensive line—guards Kevin Zeitler and John Simpson and tackle Morgan Moses—Baltimore signed running back Derrick Henry in free agency.
Without a doubt, it will look different, according to Harbaugh. “Keeping things moving is the one thing we really believe in. It will never remain the same.”
Jackson will play a significant role in the Ravens’ offense, which is starting its second season under coordinator Todd Monken, according to Harbaugh once again. Before departing for the offseason, Jackson gave the coaches his suggestions regarding personnel and scheme.
“He’ll come back, and he’ll look at everything, and we’ll want to know what he thinks,” Harbaugh stated. “For example, ‘Which would you rather have? Do you feel more at ease going in that route or this one? What appeals to you? Since our last conversation, have you had any more ideas? He’ll play a significant role in the offensive scheme, in my opinion.”
