The Edmonton Oilers have won seven of their last ten games, and they are now on a roll. This includes their three-game winning streak, which has led to Connor McDavid earning yet another trophy.

For the week ending March 31, McDavid has been selected as the NHL’s First Star of the Week, according to NHL.com. Alexis Lafrenière of the Rangers received the Third Star, while Logan Thompson of the Golden Knights received the Second Star.

McDavid racked up eight total points (three goals and five assists) in the Oilers’ three wins last week, to keep them primed for at least second place in the Pacific Division. For what it’s worth, they are also still in with a chance of catching the Vancouver Canucks for top spot, sitting six points back, but with two games in hand and still having to face them one more time.

On an individual level, the five-time Art Ross Trophy winner closed in on claiming yet another scoring title this season. Ahead of Monday’s slate of action, he’s one point behind Nikita Kucherov of the Lightning and two points behind the Avalanche’s Nathan MacKinnon at the top, with one and two more games respectively to play in the regular season.

During the three-game winning run last week for the Oilers, McDavid became just the seventh player in NHL history to reach 120 total points in at least three consecutive seasons. It’s tough to see him catching Wayne Gretzky’s record of 13 straight seasons, but he certainly has a chance of overtaking Phil Esposito and Guy Lafleur, who both achieved the feat five consecutive times.

Want more? How about the fact the Oilers captain has more assists that any other player has total points since the All-Star Break. Along these lines he sits on 96 helpers heading into Monday’s games, four away from becoming just the fourth player in NHL history to reach the 100-assist milestone.
