At the age of 43, former Leeds United midfielder David Norris has decided to end his playing career. This past weekend marked Norris’ final home game as a member of Lancaster City, a team in the Northern Premier League Premier Division.

The midfield player’s final official match will not be until April 27, but Lancaster defeated Gainsborough Trinity 2-1 at the Giant Axe to send him out on a strong note. Norris’ final senior game will take place away at FC United of Manchester later this month. The Dolly Blues have two more games left before the season ends, and Norris is anticipated to play in both.

Norris has been with the North West outfit since 2018 and his retirement brings an end to a professional career that has spanned over a quarter of a century.

“The final couple of games of the final dance,” Norris said to Twitter. “This will be my last season playing competitive football at Lancaster City.

“I feel good in terms of fitness, but the physical toll of 27 years has made it necessary for me to prioritize my family, my children, and my job.” When it’s all over, I’ll milk it even more.

After beginning his career at his hometown team Stamford, Norris progressed through the ranks of the sport, spending stints at Plymouth Argyle, Boston United, Bolton Wanderers, Hull City, Ipswich Town, and Portsmouth before joining Leeds United in 2012.
