With a lower body ailment, forward Connor McDavid is day-to-day for the Edmonton Oilers, according to head coach Kris Knoblauch’s announcement on Tuesday.

After suffering the injury in the third period of Saturday’s 4-2 victory over the Calgary Flames, McDavid did not play in the last five minutes of regulation, according to Knoblauch. In 20:39 of ice time, he recorded two assists and three shots on goal.

McDavid has a lower-body issue, according to Knoblauch. He didn’t play the final five minutes of the Calgary game because of some pain.

Throughout 74 games this season, McDavid has tallied 31 goals and 99 assists for 130 points. McDavid is third in the league in terms of points, behind Nikita Kucherov and Nathan MacKinnon, and leads the league in assists. Being one assist shy from 100 assists would make McDavid the first player to reach that mark since Wayne Gretzky in 1990–91. Only Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, and Bobby Orr have ever recorded 100 assists in a single season.

He joined Wayne Gretzky (15 times), Mario Lemieux (10 times), Marcel Dionne (8 times), Mike Bossy (7 times), and Peter Stastny (7 times) as the only players in NHL history to achieve seven seasons with 100 points.

Over the course of nine seasons, the 2015 No. 1 overall pick has scored 334 goals, made 646 assists, and totaled 980 points in just 643 games. McDavid has the opportunity to surpass Mike Bossy, who achieved the 1,000-point milestone in 656 career regular season games.
