Jack McVeigh, a forward from Tasmania, dribbled between his legs, took a step past the half-court, and propelled himself into the annals of basketball history with a miraculous shot that put his JackJumpers only one win away from their first NBL championship.

In front of 10,175 spectators, McVeigh’s three-pointer from just over half-court with just 1.2 seconds remaining in the game lifted the Tasmania JackJumpers to a 93-91 victory in game three of the NBL grand final series.

contest four of the series is scheduled for Thursday night in Hobart’s MyState Bank Arena, which may sell out. The Jackies are ahead 2-1 going into the contest.

McVeigh’s shot was one of the biggest in NBL history, according to Australian icon Andrew Gaze, who made this claim during post-game commentary for ESPN. NBL great and analyst Derek Rucker also concurred.

Rucker remarked, “That was one of the biggest shots we’ve seen in NBL history.”

With the much-publicized AFL Tasmania Devils debut last week and the JackJumpers’ breakthrough to the grand final series, Tasmanian sports are going through one of their most exciting times.The excitement will intensify if there is a national title on Thursday night. McVeigh, whose rise this season has prompted demands for him to try out for the Australian Boomers and the NBA, cut a tearful figure after the game when he realized the significance of his shot, which received more than 240,000 views on the NBL’s X feed alone.
