The Edmonton Oilers have already guaranteed themselves a postseason spot, but they may be worried that if they can’t get franchise captain Connor McDavid back in time, their playoff run may be short.

After suffering a lower-body injury during Saturday’s Oilers victory over Calgary, McDavid is “day-to-day,” per head coach Kris Knoblauch.

He lives day to day. Knoblauch said reporters on April 9 that “we’ll find out (the severity) tomorrow, definitely the weekend, but it’s day to day.”

While not ruling out McDavid for the game against the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday, April 10, Knoblauch stated, “There is a chance [he doesn’t play],” and “It’s a maintenance thing.”

Tuesday marked McDavid’s second consecutive absence from practice. Mark Spector of SportsNet has some details regarding the timing of the injury last weekend.

Officially, on April 9, Spector wrote on his X account, “McDavid has a lower body injury and is day to day.” VGK vs. Questionable for [tomorrow]. The injury occurred on Saturday night in Calgary at about 5:00 to play.

“It sounds like a minor injury, but still.” They’ll exercise caution since the playoffs are quickly approaching,” Spector said.
