Birmingham City have moved quickly to clarify the management position at the club after a report suggested that Gary Rowett would stay at the club to replace Tony Mowbray.

Responding to the report, Blues stated: “Birmingham City Football Club wishes to issue the following response to a media report relating to Interim Manager, Gary Rowett.

Rowett’s schedule remains the same as it did at the time of his nomination in March. On Saturday, he will be in charge of the Men’s First Team when they play Norwich City in the season-ending Sky Bet Championship match.

The announcement follows a rumor that the team decided to hire Rowett on a permanent basis. The Blues have consistently maintained that Rowett was only ever a temporary appointment and that this was never a scenario that was discussed.

Although interim manager Rowett has had some important players return in recent weeks, he will have challenges the night before the Norwich game. Some players are carrying ailments, according to Rowett. Tyler Roberts, who was a star in the 3-0 victory over Coventry City at St Andrew’s three weeks ago, was not used as a substitute against Huddersfield Town because of an ankle issue.

“There have been a few minor aches and pains this week,” Rowett stated in his pre-Norwich team news release. “Tyler missed a few training days due to an ankle injury, so I didn’t start him last week.”
