Matt O’Riley, a midfielder for Celtic, has had a season to remember. In 2023–2024, the Dane has elevated his game to a whole new level and has maintained his uniqueness.

He is one of few Celts who have remained fit throughout the campaign, proving to be a reliable asset, managing 46 appearances across all competitions.

Maintaining a clean sheet is one thing, but the 23-year-old has also made an impression on the field on a number of occasions. Although he had a little decline in performance shortly after the start of the season, he has been excellent overall.

33 goal contributions add testament to the level of his performances and at the 20th anniversary of the Celtic Player of the Year awards on Sunday evening, O’Riley completed a clean sweep.

The former MK Dons man walked home with the Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year, and Young Player of the Year awards in a hugely successful night.

Since the event, he has taken to Instagram, giving thanks to his teammates and the supporters while stating he is ‘grateful’ to be part of the Celtic family:

Transfer teams’ interest in O’Riley this summer is hardly surprising, considering his season.

Indeed, it has already been reported that Celtic and two of the top six English Premier League teams are in talks regarding a summer transfer for the midfield player.

Although the loss of the Player of the Year would be felt heavily coming into the next season, it is indisputable that O’Riley deserves the chance to play at a higher level.
