Negotiating a deal for O’Riley would have been considerably more difficult for the club given their financial constraints following their 2023–2024 campaign failure to earn promotion to the Premier League. To meet the EFL’s financial requirements, they will probably need to sell some of their best assets.
Whether the finances would be there to get a deal done is one thing; whether they would be able to convince him to join them over the litany of other teams that are interested is another.
