As Pitt football’s head coach, Narduzzi was starting his ninth season; his contract was scheduled to expire following the 2024 campaign. Only months after Pitt football concluded with its first eleven-win season since 1981, won its first-ever ACC Championship, and finished at No. 13 by the Associated Press—the program’s highest ranking finish since 1982—the six-year contract pact keeps him as head coach. Last Tuesday, at his media appearance, Lyke declared that the extension was “imminent.”

“Our ACC championship season was the result of a strong culture and foundation that Pat Narduzzi has tirelessly built for Pitt football,” Lyke said in a statement on Monday. Our program is set up for long-term success thanks to that foundation. Our program’s success has been largely attributed to the tremendous leadership that Coach Narduzzi and his team have continued to deliver. When Coach Narduzzi is on our sideline, we know we are set up for even more historic moments in the years to come.”

Narduzzi has a 53-37 record in seven seasons and two ACC Coastal Division championships. It is evident from speaking with Pitt’s players—from seasoned leaders to recent transfers and freshmen—that he has created a great football culture and environment that the players love being a part of and that has resulted in the draft selection of 18 players. That comprises the six players that were chosen in the previous round, and with the addition of Kenny Pickett and Damarri Mathis, as well as maybe more, in the 2022 NFL round, that total will rise.

“I love Pitt football and the University of Pittsburgh,” Narduzzi said in a statement alongside Lyke’s. “Pitt is truly home for my family and me. We are proud to represent this outstanding university and live in this tremendous city. I am so appreciative of our players, coaches and staff. Nothing great can be accomplished without their efforts and commitment. I’ve always talked about the importance of pushing together in the same direction. We have that at Pitt across the board.”
