Behren Morton, a four-star quarterback from Eastland in 2021 who made his verbal commitment known on Twitter on Tuesday morning, represents the biggest recruiting coup for Texas Tech’s new coaching staff to yet.

Rankings for the 6-foot-2, 185-pound junior indicate that he is the No. 250 overall player, the No. 7 dual-threat quarterback, and the No.

40 overall recruit in Texas for the 2021 class according 247Sports Composite rankings, an average of the major recruiting services. 247Sports itself, has Morton ranked slightly higher as Morton checks in at No. 202 overall in the U.S., the No. 7 dual-threat QB and No. 34 in the Lone Star State.

A couple major factors played a role in Morton’s decision to commit to Texas Tech. Chief among those are his West Texas roots as Morton grew up first in Lubbock and then in Midland as his father, James Morton, was the head football coach at Lubbock Monterrey for 11 years before taking the Midland Lee job in 2009 and eventually returning to his alma mater, Eastland in 2016.
