It was always expected that Redshirt freshman quarterback Arch Manning of the Texas Longhorns would need some time to acclimate to life behind (now two-year starter) Quinn Ewers. But most people thought Ewers would leave before the 2024 college football season, when Manning was expected to take over as Texas’ main quarterback.

However, things don’t always go as planned in life.

Ewers recently discussed how he believes the circumstances are perfect for his second-year backup, echoing the comments made by coaches and commentators about Texas’ quarterback room thus far this offseason.

According to On3, Ewers remarked on a recent episode of RG3 and the Ones, “Not being from the state and coming in, and it’s obviously a little different.” He has more time to develop a sense of pride and affection for the university. It goes without saying that he adores the university and the Longhorns. However, I believe that watching from a distance is distinct from actually playing. He may therefore get a lot of intelligence by seeing what’s happening both inside and outside.

“Thereafter, naturally, is another year to become more familiar with the intricacies of the offense and to study the offense. I believe that’s the finest possible setting for him.
