Rookie cornerback and Minnesota Viking Khyree Jackson died early Saturday morning in Maryland after being involved in a car accident.

The Minnesota Vikings confirmed the report in a statement released Saturday morning.

Maryland State Police said they responded to the fatal crash around 3:14 a.m. Saturday in Upper Marlboro. There, three vehicles had been involved in a fatal crash: a silver Infinity Q50, a silver Chevrolet Impala, and a maroon Dodge Charger.

The state police’s information said Jackson was a passenger in the Dodge Charger, seated next to the driver with another passenger in the backseat.

According to the Maryland State Police, their preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the silver Infiniti, was traveling northbound on Route 4 when it attempted to change lanes at a high rate of speed.

According to police, this caused the vehicle to strike the Charger and then the Impala. The Charger traveled off the right side of the roadway as a result of the contact and struck multiple tree stumps, where it came to a stop.

The occupants of the Impala and Infinity were unharmed, but the three occupants of the Charger were not. Jackson and the driver were pronounced dead at the scene, while the second passenger was later pronounced deceased at a hospital.

State police said alcohol may have been a contributing circumstance in the crash.

The Viking organization later Saturday morning informed fans of the incident, offering their thoughts to Khyree’s family, friends, teammates and coaches.
