The Roughriders defeated the Toronto Argonauts 30-23 on Thursday to continue their winning run under new head coach Corey Mace.

Although he is grateful for the team’s early success, Mace, who was brought in during the off-season by the Roughriders to take Craig Dickenson’s place as head coach, isn’t taking anything for granted.

Trophy distribution at this early stage has never occurred, so we must win first place the next week. That’s just our literal approach, and we’ll see where we end up,” said Mace, who was the Argos’ defensive co-coordinator for the last two seasons.

Shea Patterson of Saskatchewan and Cameron Dukes of Toronto, two young quarterbacks, faced off in the game.

Following Chad Kelly’s May 7 minimum nine-game suspension for violating the CFL’s policy regarding gender-based violence, Dukes assumed the starting position.

After Trevor Harris was placed on the six-game disabled list on June 24 due to a sprained ligament in his left knee, Patterson assumed the starting position for Saskatchewan.
