Russell Wilson appears to have some options for where he will play next season going into the NFL offseason in 2024. The Pittsburgh Steelers are one of such teams.

Wilson’s tenure with the Denver Broncos appeared to come to an end when he was benched for the

final two weeks of the 2023 campaign. In the meantime, the Steelers were among the numerous teams in the league whose quarterback situation didn’t turn out as planned for the season.

The two might be a good fit because of it.

According to Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report, the Steelers are actually the ideal team for the former All-Pro quarterback to sign with.

Ballentine thinks Wilson would meet Pittsburgh’s quarterbacking demands to transform their attack in 2024 and that the Steelers would provide him the starting opportunity he needs at this stage of his career.

Although the Steelers’ quarterback issue for the 2023 season is obvious, it’s unclear what steps they will take to address it.

There will be opportunities to get a new quarterback.

The contract of Kirk Cousins will expire. Baker Mayfield has unrestricted free agency. Wilson can become available through a trade or a release. Another deal is anticipated for Justin Fields.

It would seem reasonable for the team to at least think about trying to upgrade at quarterback given the availability of all those choices.

They may have already determined, though, that’s not how they want to handle things.

Head coach Mike Tomlin stated that he thought the 2024 starter was already in the lineup during his news conference at the conclusion of the 2023 campaign.

In addition to sticking with Kenny Pickett, Steelers reporter Mark Madden recently projected that the team will not re-sign Mason Rudolph in order to protect the young quarterback in his third season.

The team still needs to appoint an offensive coordinator, and the individual who takes over as coordinator may have an impact on the QB position going forward.

However, as of right now, we can only speculate as to how the Steelers’ quarterback depth chart will seem in the upcoming campaign.
