Kerry Joseph cut by Eskimos, set to retire from CFL | CBC SportsIllinois’s Lake Forest (AP) – On Friday, Kerry Joseph was hired by the Chicago Bears to teach quarterbacks, bringing him back together with new offensive coordinator Shane Waldron.

It’s unclear if Waldron and Joseph will collaborate with Justin Fields or perhaps Caleb Williams in the upcoming season. After obtaining Carolina’s first-round pick in the trade that brought top receiver DJ Moore to Chicago in March, the Bears now own the top pick in the April draft. Chicago is the No. 9 choice as well.

Joseph worked under Waldron on Pete Carroll’s staff for three of his four years in Seattle. After working as the offensive assistant/running backs coach in 2020 and the assistant wide receivers coach in 2021, he was the Seahawks’ assistant quarterbacks coach in 2022 and 2023.

Working with Geno Smith over the previous two seasons, he and Waldron enabled him to go from a journeyman quarterback to the 2022 AP Comeback Player of the Year, when he completed passes for 4,282 yards and 30 touchdowns.

Joseph has served as a coach at Southeast Louisiana State and McNeese State, his alma school. He spent over twenty years playing in the World League, NFL Europe, CFL, and NFL.

Waldron was brought on by the Bears on Tuesday to take Luke Getsy’s spot, who was let go after two seasons. After concluding 2022 with a league-worst 3-14 record, Chicago improved its defense and went 7-10 in coach Matt Eberflus’ second season.
