The Miami Dolphins are scheduled to interview defensive line coach Anthony Weaver of the Baltimore Ravens as part of their search for a new defensive coordinator, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic.

Weaver, who is currently Baltimore’s associate head coach, reportedly had talks with the Atlanta Falcons for their head coaching opening. On Monday, Russini made it clear that he had another interview with the Washington Commanders. The 43-year-old is viewed as an assistant coach on the rise and is frequently regarded as a serious candidate for head coaching in the future.

Texans promote Anthony Weaver to defensive coordinator

Russini disclosed in December that “[Weaver] has emerged as a notable name in conversations in the pursuit of establishing the right culture.” “..An NFL executive, pointing out Weaver’s firm discipline, compared him to someone like Dan Campbell. We’ve seen Campbell make the successful move from assistant head coach to head coach, and if given the chance, Weaver—a former player himself—might be able to excite a club with the same fervour.

gio’s one-year stint with the Dolphins left much to be desired, thus the franchise needs to find a replacement.

Fangio’s unique style of defence management caused conflict with other coaches, as seen by his unwillingness to let position coaches show their work to the defence. Rather, he obtained the material himself and disseminated it, according to Albert Breer of The MMQB. By the end of the season, players were growing weary of this outdated strategy and were tuning out Fangio.

Weaver seems like a good choice because he may provide a welcome change of pace from Fangio’s techniques.

Adding Weaver may mean that Miami will have three different defensive coordinators in as many seasons, which is a possible disadvantage. But Weaver, a former defensive end, might be positioned for a move elsewhere if the defence shows a lot of development in 2024.

Weaver makes a strong argument for being hired if the chance to do so arises, despite the possibility of a coaching change raising concerns.
