Head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Mike Tomlin, is establishing himself in the 2024 NFL Draft. He was there for the Senior Bowl workouts on the second day, evaluating the new crop of football players to see which ones to pursue.

The Super Bowl-winning coach approached him and another top prospect for a very particular message, according to one of the top wideouts in the 2024 Draft.

2024 Senior Bowl Day 1 standouts: WRs Ladd McConkey, Roman Wilson separating from pack

Following the second Senior Bowl practice day, Roman Wilson, a wide receiver for Michigan, was interviewed by the media. He was asked about the incident in which Mike Tomlin pulled him and Toledo running back Quinyon Mitchell aside for a brief conversation.

Wilson revealed that the Steelers coach wanted him and Mitchell to go at it:

“As [Mike Tomlin] was about to leave the Steelers, he pulled us both aside and said, ‘Make sure you all go against each other,'” Wilson recalled the incident.

He continued by noting that they were both encouraged by the coach’s prompt encouragement. In his praise of Mitchell, he was unusually elegant.

Mitchell undoubtedly took that a bit too literally. Almost everything we did one-on-one together was done so by us. Extremely skilled and fiercely competitive gamer. He seems like a terrific man and a pace setter in my opinion.

Los Angeles Chargers also interested in Wilson

There are other teams interested in selecting the Michigan wide receiver besides the Steelers. The media brought up reports that the Los Angeles Chargers are investigating him as well.

Wilson responded by saying he hadn’t heard back from anyone in the company but that he would be interested in visiting Los Angeles:

“I am not positive… Hopefully, they are considering me, as I believe.

In the unlikely event that the Chargers select Wilson, he will re-establish contact with former Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh. He produced 48 receptions for 789 yards and 12 touchdowns under his system, so if he teams up with his former college coach, he probably won’t make much changes.
