The Pittsburgh Steelers’ president, Art Rooney II, has stated that the organization is open to trading for a quarterback in the summer. In 2023, the offensive faced several challenges, many of which were related to the position.
Due to a combination of injuries and patchy play, the Steelers’ backfield last season featured a rotating cast of passers. Although he was one of three players to take snaps under center, Kenny Pickett started the season as the starter.
The offense, which scored among the fewest points in the NFL, struggled all season long. After Pittsburgh lost all ten of its opening games, offensive coordinator Matt Canada was fired in the middle of the season.
Fans weren’t happy and the scenes at Acrisure Stadium were ugly!
When Mitchell Trubisky had to start in place of Pickett due to an injury, things only got worse.
The Steelers went without a win when Trubisky was leading them, as he was unable to surpass 200 passing yards in each of his two appearances. Mason Rudolph took his place as a result of the struggles.
To close out the regular season and, inexplicably, propel the squad into the playoffs, Rudolph went 3-0. But Buffalo’s poor postseason showing basically put a stop to the year.
There are still questions now.
Is there suddenly a battle in the QB room? Rudolph looked the most consistent of the trio last year despite beginning the season as third string on the depth chart.
