Michael Penix Jr., a quarterback for Washington, has been linked to the Miami Dolphins in recent weeks. However, according to a new mock draft by Bleacher Report, the Fins have traded Penix’s selection rights to the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Bleacher Report scouting staff, which includes Matt Holder, Alex Ballentine, Brent Sobleski, Cory Giddings, Derrik Klassen, Kris Knox, and Brandon Thorn, projected on April 1 that Miami would trade their 2024 first round pick to the Raiders in exchange for a package of picks. After selecting Penn State offensive tackle Olumuyiwa Fashanu at No. 13 overall, Las Vegas would next select Penix. The complete predicted trade plan from B/R is shown below.

The Dolphins would receive a future third round pick in April along with three chances to fill roster gaps from picks 44 through 77 (including their own second round pick at No. 55) in this trade. Although receiving a top 21 pick is a significant sacrifice, if you look at the 2024 NFL trade value table (which estimates the prices of 2025 picks), this is probably a net win overall.

Miami’s primary needs—guard, defensive tackle, wide receiver, and depth at linebacker/edge—must also be taken into account.
