Shams Charania of The Athletic reported the news that Thanasis Antetokounmpo, Giannis Antetokounmpo’s elder brother and teammate in Milwaukee, awaits surgery to heal a torn Achilles.

Antetokounmpo was fine during the Bucks’ final playoff game, a Game 6 loss to the Pacers, even though he played during garbage time. This week’s workout is when the injury occurred, according to The Athletic.

Due to the injury, Antetokounmpo will not be able to compete for the Greek national team this summer as it attempts to secure one of the four Olympic slots that are still available. Thanasis assumed a more significant part for the Greek squad during Giannis’ absence from competition last summer. He will probably miss the most of the upcoming NBA season, if not the entire one.

After five years with the Bucks, Antetokounmpo, 31, has appeared in 34 games this year. In addition to being close to his brother, he has signed a number of one-year contracts with the Bucks to remain with the organization. He was set to sign another one of those contracts, but should the Bucks take that route now that he won’t be able to play for a year?
