Following the firing of former Suns head coach Frank Vogel, former Milwaukee Bucks head coach Mike Budenholzer has agreed to a five-year, $50 million+ contract with the Phoenix Suns to become their new head coach.The Phoenix Suns have signed Mike Budenholzer to a five-year, over $50 million contract, according to league sources that were shared with @TheAthletic @Stadium. Budenholzer is an Arizona native and the two-time NBA Coach of the Year.

When the Bucks faced the Phoenix Suns in the NBA Finals in 2021, Budenholzer was their head coach. The team overcame a 2-0 hole to win four games in a row and earn their second-ever NBA title. Phoenix is hoping that by bringing Mike Budenholzer—a native of Arizona and two-time coach of the year—the Suns would see success akin to that of the 2021 Bucks.

Budenholzer was fired by the Milwaukee Bucks following the 2023 NBA season, despite having guided the team to a 58-24 record and the top seed in the East. Budenholzer did not coach in the NBA for the 2023–2024 season.
