Despite interest from Manchester United and Chelsea in signing Tosin Adarabioyo, Newcastle United is the “best” club for him to join this summer, according to Adarabioyo. Following the expiration of his Fulham contract, the centre defender is available on a free transfer.

The 26-year-old is rumoured to have been pleased by the Newcastle project, but there is concern that Man United or Chelsea may beat the Magpies to his signing given the Magpies’ lack of European football for the upcoming season.

Tosin has been advised, meanwhile, “to proceed with caution” when choosing his next team, as it is thought that a transfer to Newcastle would provide almost assured first-team football guarantees that a move to Chelsea could not.

Simon Bird of The Daily Mirror offered his explanation for Chelsea’s late participation in the Adarabioyo race on The Everything is Black and White Podcast.

He will receive a higher salary from Newcastle if he moves here than he would have if Chelsea and Manchester United were interested in him, but I believe he should exercise caution in his decision-making.

Why is he needed by Chelsea? They want him because he’s a free agent and an asset, and if he’s on the books, he’s worth between £20 and £30 million, right? They have a huge squad and young centre backs.

Chelsea is acquiring him in a manner like to that of a hedge fund manager because they desire this asset.”

Man United is a whole different story; they are a massive team. They may have more money to spend, but who is the manager? He has no idea who the manager is, and Dan Ashworth, the director of football, isn’t even there yet. He must therefore use caution in his decision-making, and Newcastle may be the greatest option for him.”

Adarabioyo began his career at Manchester City, where he progressed through the development ranks. However, he never played in the first team before moving to Fulham in 2020. He has since made 78 Premier League appearances with the West London team.

Because Sven Botman and Jamal Lascelles both have long-term injuries, Newcastle is looking to add two centre backs to their roster.
