Jaxson Dart is considered a consistent veteran by national college football experts, yet he is a dark horse for the Heisman Trophy. His upcoming season in Oxford may be his best to date.

What remains for Dart to demonstrate during his last Ole Miss season in 2024?

Put simply, he needs to improve his game to compete with the best players on the schedule. In the past, Dart appeared to have evolved into more of a game manager who neither won nor lost the game for the Rebels.

It’s crucial to remember that we are discussing the Georgias and Alabamas of the globe. In SEC play and non-conference play, Dart completely dominates the rest of his opponents, and he’s reason 1A or reason 1B as,

The SEC is the toughest conference in the country, and Dart performed pretty damn well against most of its opponents outside of the top two. It’s hard to say whether Dart would have led a couple late touchdown drives against Georgia in the final quarter of that game, but even so, it was evident the QB was scrambling for his life against the Bulldogs.

It’s not all on Dart either, because the offensive line has to do its part to keep No. 2 upright. The Crimson Tide shredded the OL for five sacks in the 24-10 loss, and while Ole Miss won against Auburn, Arkansas and Vanderbilt, Dart was sacked a total of nine times in the meat of the conference schedule.

For the first time in several years, Alabama is not in the 2024 season; instead, the SEC powerhouse Georgia Bulldogs will visit Oxford for a crucial November matchup. This game has the potential to be one of the biggest in Ole Miss football’s last 25 years. The squad has faced several challenging opponents in the past, including Oklahoma at home, South Carolina, LSU, and Arkansas on the road, and Kentucky, a perennially strong defensive team, visiting Oxford.
