The Boston Celtics’ Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown will play in this year’s NBA All-Star Game, but Joe Mazzulla thinks his team should send more players to Indianapolis.
Derrick White and Kristaps Porzingis were not listed as reserves or considered as Joel Embiid and Julius Randle’s injured replacements. Instead, Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks and Scottie Barnes of the Toronto Raptors took their place.
Mazzulla takes issue with the players’ inability to get entry given the season they are both having.
“How come you didn’t include both of those guys?” Prior to the Brooklyn Nets game on Tuesday, Mazzulla informed reporters. “Those are two intelligent guys. Guys who are relatively new simply want to participate in winning and play by the rules. For those two individuals, winning is the most important thing. Ultimately, it is all that is significant.
It seems obvious that winning isn’t important. It is not important to win. That’s how I feel,” he continued. “How come you didn’t include both of those guys? In the league, winning isn’t the most essential thing.
This season, Porzingis and White have been crucial to Boston; the former has averaged 20.4 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 1.9 assists. Even though White’s stats may not match those of an All-Star, he has demonstrated his versatility and helped the Celtics win this season.
The Celtics will keep their current focus on winning as they prepare to visit the Nets on Wednesday night in an attempt to extend their winning streak to six games.
