Before the match against Rangers, the manager praises the captain’s impact on the team.
Callum McGregor’s presence, according to Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, was a major factor in the Northern Irishman’s decision to rejoin the team as manager.

Ange Postecoglou was replaced by Rodgers last summer to begin a second tenure at Celtic Park following three trophy-laden seasons from 2016 to 2019. Leaning largely on McGregor during his initial stay at the club, the Northern Irishman left Celtic for Leicester City. He later said that his decision to return was made easier by his knowledge of the club’s player and personality qualities.

“It was one of the big factors for me coming back,” Aaron Rodgers stated in reference to McGregor before of Saturday’s Old Firm game against Rangers at home. Since he was present, I must admit that I really enjoyed working with him during the first season. The quantity of roles he participated in. He believes that this is the best version of the game ever. I’ve had the good fortune to work with several outstanding and talented captains. He is standing directly beside them.

Every captain approaches it differently. For me, it’s enough to watch his development as a player and a person on the field. In addition to having a strong personality both on and off the field, Callum always strikes me as having humility, which is something that makes him an excellent captain for a team like Celtic.

“He’s a really outstanding player. He had a big impact on my decision to return here. Working with someone like that, knowing what he would offer, that he is the most professional player I have ever worked with, and his performance level all go hand in hand. It’s wonderful to observe. He has grown into a fantastic footballer as well as a wonderful person.
