In the end, Birmingham’s season ended in Championship relegation, which is disastrous given their situation earlier in the season. They were expected to contend for a post-season spot under John Eustace, but they soon regretted hiring Wayne Rooney despite their chances of making the playoffs.

After Rooney’s debacle, Mowbray took over as Sunderland’s manager. However, he had to make room for Rowett, meaning the Blues are now back at the starting point.Left in search of a new manager, Birmingham have already been linked with the likes of former boss Steve Bruce, who has more than enough experience to guide them back to the Championship at the first time of asking. But now it seems as though the club are aiming for a younger candidate.

Following Liam Rosenior’s unexpected departure from Hull City, Wayne Veysey of Football Insider reports that Birmingham has shortlisted Rosenior for their management position. Although Rosenior received a nomination for the Championship’s Manager of the Season award, Hull finally decided to fire him, much to the surprise of many, because he was unable to guarantee a spot in the play-offs.

To prevent any Rooney analogies, though, the 39-year-old would need to start the game quickly at St Andrew’s, particularly after saying he had learned from the Manchester United icon while they shared the Derby County dugout.

Rosenior stated on Derby’s official website that Wayne is a people-person with intelligence. He has been able to demonstrate to him that he cares about them even in this trying moment.
